So many years one of my children complained of abdominal distress, had asthma and allergies. The pediatrician did think the abdominal stuff might be from "allergies" but not foods. Then the kid got depression and so they said the problem with her abdominal pains were due to depression. So they put her on an antidepressant.
What it turned out to be was a problem with gluten and dairy. You probably guessed - she has Celiac. I know people are writing about these things - like Mark Hyman in his book "Fix the Broken Brain" and Jeanie Wolfson in the book "It's Not Mental", but I also know from a friend's experience with H. Pylori (an ulcer) that it may take 25 more years before the general medical community pay attention and change "standard practice." I feel frustrated about this. Now, I guess I need to find an advocacy group for celiac/gluten sensitivity. |
