My Chihuahua has recently been diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. This is a heart condition the mostly occurs in large dogs, but nevertheless my doggy has been diagnosed with it. My research has shown that diets low in sodium and high in amino acids taurine and carnitine are very good for the heart, and can actually reverse the enlarged heart. I have changed his food to prescription diet H/D (has the taurine and carnitine, low sodium and added potassium since the Lasix depletes potassium quickly) , but would love to find a dog treat that I can get at a Petsmart, Petland, or even the Seventh Vortex of Hell (Walmart). My dog loves his dogs biscuit (demanding them before he goes outside hahaha). Does anyone here know of a dog treat that is good for the heart?

YES!!
But, can't be found at Petsmart or those stores. Have you tried Mother Hubbards? Those are natural ingrediants and can be found at Petsmart. My dog loved the peanut butter and the 'coal'. If your dog has such a heart condition why don't you just order the good stuff online? It's really easy to do and shipping is fast. If it were my puppy I'd want the best for him, and I"m sure you do to. I would recommend Dogswell Happy Heart. I've given you an Amazon link. I've used Amazon for lots of purchases and haven't had a bad experience. PS: We have a store called Pet Supplies Plus and they carry the Dogswell brand. So, maybe checking around at other stores will help - even local smaller animal supply stores that aren't a chain will carry them. |

Low fat/nosalt peanut butter on a milkbone administered shortly after a brisk walk and watering. Some dogs love this type of peanut butter on a carrot as well.

PUPcorn, which is like doggy-popcorn, is supposed to be low in sodium. It comes in a few different flavors (like peanut butter and cheese), and my toy chihuahua loves them. They are available at Walmart,Pet Co, Petsmart..mostly anywhere I guess!! I have to break it up in smaller peices for him though! Im sorry to hear about your pups condition!! Hope it's ok!

I think the person to ask this question is your vet, but I would think carrots and other types of vegetables would help. My dogs love sweet veggies as a treat and they are good for you.
