Default 14 yr old pomeranian with congestive failure has an increase in panting, what to do? ?

He is currently on meds - lasix bid and enalapril bid. This has happened to him before - excessive panting, won't sit or lay down - we brought him to the vet, and they gave him vancomycin bid x 1 week. This helped him. I still have some vancomycin left over, should I use it? I tried to get an appointment with the vet, but since it is a long weekend, his vet was not available. Any suggestions?

I think I'd try to get a hold of a vet, there must be emergency vets on call. If the dog has CHF and is already on lasix, it sounds like he might be having a tough time of it and is air hungry. It sounds like he might need an adjustment in the lasix to rid his heart of the extra fluid accumulation. Good luck.

Call another vet or call your vet's office and see if there is an emergency number. This is better to treat with the blessing of your vet. This is a problem where winging it can be very detrimental to your dog.

I would not give the vancomycin, as this medication is used to treat major bacterial infections.

Panting and not laying down or sitting down sounds like pain in the thorax, I would take your dog to an emergency clinic of some sort.

Call your vet and see if he oks the use of the vancomycin you still have at your house. If you can't get through to him or he says no, go to an emergency vet- they are always open.
