Default Water fasting: How is it that it can control water retention??

My father is a heart patient who suffers from water-retention and has to take Lasix everyday to keep it under control. But when he goes on a water-fast (drinking only water, no food, no drinks other than water, no drugs or suppliments), his water retention problem (if it was bad the day before) gradually goes away sans Lasix. And he won't have any water-retention problem for the duration of his fast and a few days after. Can someone explain to me how this is possible??

Thank you.

I am sorry that I don't have an answer for you, but my father, (now deceased) was a doctor of Internal Medicine and was considered to be one of the best in the area. He would not prescribe Lasix as it can cause DVT (blood clots). PLEASE go the route of plenty of water and stay away from diuretics!

If he is taking Lasix regularly, the medicine builds up in the blood stream and continues to work for some more days. When he takes only water during his water fast days, the sodium is getting removed and that helps his heart problem too. If he can fast for more days and still be free from symptoms, he is probably detoxing and is getting benefited. I need more details to give you better answer.

The Water fasting is a great method to treat fluid retention but it is certainly not advisory to fast on regular intervals which might damage the body balance. The diuretics like Lasix certainly have side effects related to the patient's cardiac prevailing problem, but with water retention it becomes necessary to take them.

Those with the following condition shouldn't do it though:
