Yes, make sure the calories you expend (exercise) are more than you take in (eat). No, I'm not being a smart aleck... it really is that simple.

Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) . Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood. Metformin is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood).
Please see the web pages for more details on Metformin (generic name) Glucophage (brand name). Consult your doctor. |

I am close to your age (61) and am on insulin nd Glucophage. My weight is a bit higher than I would like but not going up if I eat correctly. I think it is our age more than anything that is adding or keeping weight on. The only thing my doctor has said to me about it is that I need to add more exercise even if it is an extra trip around the block.
I would ask your doctor for advice on what is the best thing for YOU to do. Good luck! I feel "your pain"! PS: Spell Check wanted me to change Glucophage to "cleavage". How funny! |

Hello, my husband is 47 and diabetic for 15 years, recently he was prescribed a new drug BYETTA™ (exenatide) that replaces insulin and in 45 days he lost 1 stone without any special diet. Only sometimes he gets bad diarrhea which is side effect of this drug. It works for him much better that insulin. Here is a link for this medication. www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/23621.... . As it is new drug-its prescribed only by specialist at diabetic clinics, you GP could refer you. Good luck !
