Obviously it has something to do with your sugar but what does it do to your body?

From what I know, Glucophage works by decreasing sugar production in the liver.

i think the other answers aren't quite right. every persons body produces sugar, even those that are diabetic. this makes the diabetic persons sugars very high. the glucophage is designed to slow down the body's production of sugar, so that the diabetic only has to worry about the amount of sugars they eat, not those that their body manufactures. it works very well for most diabetics, and it doesn't raise the body's insulin levels, which is also a good thing.

Glucophage or metformin enables the insulin your pancreas makes to carry the food into your cells to feed your body. It is used to treat Type 2 diabetics who are insulin resistant (body doesn't use insulin properly anymore) to use the insulin again. Without medication, the sugar or carbs in your blood just stay there and don't get into the cells resulting in high blood glucose readings.

Glucophage works in two ways:
1) It makes your cells more "sensitive" to insulin 2) It reduces the amount of "spare "sugar produce by your liver. |

Glucophage is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. Moreover, it is not advisable to take it if you are allergic to metformin.

It is used to control blood glucose (blood sugar) for people with type 2 diabetes. It is used when diet, exercise, and weight reduction have not been found to lower blood glucose well enough on their own. It works by reducing the amount of glucose made by the liver and by making it easier for glucose to enter into the tissues of the body.
