Default what can I take to lower my cholesterol?

i have high cholesterol. I can not tolerate any cholesterol lowering drugs, from statins to zetia. I get terrible leg pain. I have lost about 40 pounds slowly and am still trying to loose weight. I eat very little saturated fats.Any suggestions

Don't trust your doctor on this one! Both my husband and I have problems like that with statins and I also had muscle wasting with Zetia. These problems are not at all uncommon and most doctors these days are rushing to prescribe those drugs without thinking about it at all. They cause cardiac and skeletal muscle wasting in many people.

You need to do the following and it will drop your cholesterol level:

Eat oatmeal (whole or old fashioned rolled oats are best), salmon and other fish 3-4 times a week, chicked without the skin, garlic, lots of fruits and veggies. Make sure your diet is rich in antioxidants provided by the most colorful fruits and veggies- as fresh as possible. "Sea legs" are fine. Don't eat cheese, butter, ice cream or dairy products other than yogurt, kefir and lowfat milk. Get a good non-trans fat margarine and use high quality cold pressed oils (olive, canola, sunflower and safflower) as a substitute. Basically I wouldn't worry about any fish, even shellfish, which contains cholesterol - it's probably got "good cholesterol."

Avoid red meat (once a month is enough), fried foods, bread, potatoes, rice except for whole grained rice.

Eat nuts. Almond butter helps with depression.

If you smoke, get help to stop.

Next, here is something that is not proven yet, but may very hlep peolpe who are trying to reduce cholesterol and calcium buildup on their arteries. It's called chelation therapy. Check out one form of it at the Website below.

Have you tried all natural red yeast rice statin? check out your local health food store. My husband and I both take it.

In general, I understand high cholesterol is a symptom of hyperinsulinemia - the cause of pre-diabetes and diabetes, as well as heart trouble. If that is the cause of your cholesterol problem, then lowering your insulin reactivity will help lower your LDL and raise your HDL (the good one).

Policosinol, Red Yeast Rice, Apple Pectin, Tumeric, Pomegranate, Garlic, Phytosterols......there are so many natural, proven, safe and effective supplements out there for cholesterol that it is CRIMINAL you haven't been informed about them by your health care practitioners. Go to the PDR online if you doubt their efficacy. That's a doctor created website. Or, go one step better: PubMed Home, which contains 15 million biomedical citations which the doctors don't even bother to investigate. They are PEZ machines for the drug companies, or worse, drug dealers, who drive the same cars and have the same arrogance of THUGZ.

I've been told that red yeast rice and fish oil has worked for two of my friends. Also, do some of your own research on sites like Dr. mercola"s or Dr. Rath. There is evidence that it is not the high cholesterol that is the root of the problem, but the arteries require vitamin c , lysine and other elements to prevent and heal damage done by free radicals that enter the body through trans fats, toxins etc. Do your homework.

Try to eat whole foods. Avoid fake fats. Eat foods that "remember where they came from - " ex - fresh not canned veggies, potatoes, not mashed potatoes, etc. WHole grains and plenty of fresh fruit. Also, incorportate exercise more and more daily. Good for you, losing all that weight! Check with a registered dietician for more suffestions. Also, try mypyramid.gov as a great resource/tracking tool. Good luck and God bless!
