Default Baby spits up 2 hours after feeding? Zantac?

My son rarely spits up right after he feeds or after he burps. I try to make sure he burps after every feeding. If so, it is a little bit. 2 hours later the spitting up starts and it seems like a lot, and it does not stop until it is time for the next feeding. We have switched his formula four times. Enfamil Lipil to Prosobee (constipated him) to Similic Infamil (constipated him) to Good Start. My son is not fussy and is gaining weight very well. My doctor gave me a presciption for Zantac. I have not filled it yet. Has anyone used Zantac with their baby who spit up? Did it work?

my son has been on Zantac since he was 6 weeks old but he was refusing to eat because of the pain. It does not help with the spit up it just takes the acid out so it is not painful. If it doesn't seem to bother him, he is eating fine, and gaining weight then I would not give it to him. I wish my son did not have to be on it.

If the spitting up is not uncomfortable for your son and he is gaining weight well, I would not give him any medication. My son was/is a big spitter (he seems to be growing out of it slowly), so I know how crazy it can drive a person! You may want to try some different bottles and see if that helps, if not, I'd just invest in some more burp cloths, cover the furniture with towels, and wait for him to outgrow it.

My son took Zantac from 10 weeks as he had very painful acid reflux despite gaining weight. He was a different baby after taking it, and he had to take it for over two years. He was taken off it gradually and now does not need it at all. Gastroenterologists have told me it is a safe drug. I would not hesitate to use it again as the long term effects of acid erosion in a stomach are unpleasant especially in a delicate baby.

Zantac for your baby? hummm...... not sure I would do that myself. Does the doctor think the baby has acid reflux? If he is gaining weight then you probably need not worry. Are you nursing or JUST bottle feeding I'm guessing? (otherwise I'd question what YOU are eating that could cause this)

Try him in a different position following feedings see if that helps? THey say goats milk is closest thing to mothers milk even though it's pricey.

If your doct. thinks it is safe then try the Zantac - if it helps then you know it's just his little digestive system not quite fully developed.

I had the same problem with my son, he wouldn't even take breast milk. I switched to Soy Formula and that seemed to help but didn't stop it...the doctor recommend Zantac and he hasn't been spitting nearly as often since then. It seems to work great! I wouldn't be too concerned, it is something he may grow out of or maybe he's lactose and tolerant like my son!

Hope I helped=)

Yes my son takes Zantac. It reduces the amount of spitting up but it will not stop it entirely. I am very happy with the results of the Zantac b/c my son had painful reflux and cried a lot before we started it and now he is the happiest baby. He takes Zantac and Mylanta.

My son took Zantac for 2 months then we switched to Reglan. Zantac worked for the most part, but Reglan is stronger and works better. They usually start babies on Zantac if there's concern of acid reflux or GERD. We also switched formulas several times, and ended up on Nutrimagen, which works so much better. We found out he had a cow's milk allergy, and soy formulas didn't help either. Nurtimagen should be last resort because it is so pricey, but if he has an allergy to everything else, maybe you should try it. Go ahead and try the Zantac, see if it helps. If not, talk to your son's ped about Reglan and Nutrimagen. I've been through this more than once, and it's irritating to know your child has an issue. It's nothing but trial and error with formula. Good luck!

maybe your son is not compatible with taking the medicine.. it usually happens.. ask your doctor if he can prescribe something as an alternative..
