No one can actually know what are the causes of brain cancer - even doctors can seldom explain why others get it and some don't. Here are some risk factors though:
Being male - brain tumors are more common in males than females
Race - Brain tumors occur more often among white people than among people of other race
Age - Most brain tumors are detected in people who are 70 years old or older
Family history - People with family members who have gliomas may be more likely to develop this disease.
Exposure factors:
Radiation - Workers in the nuclear industry have an increased risk of developing a brain tumor
Formaldehyde - Pathologists and embalmers who work with formaldehyde have an increased risk of developing brain cancer.
Vinyl chloride - Workers who make plastics may be exposed to vinyl chloride
Acrylonitrile - People who make textiles and plastics may be exposed to acrylonitrile.

I think stress and depression too can lead to brain tumor.

No specific reason behind the growth of Brain Tumor is known yet. The exposure to radiation can be pointed as the most prominent cause for brain tumor. The Lymphoma (Cancer) of Brain might also induce the formation of Tumor.

Brain tumors are the result of uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the brain. They can affect children and adults, but are considered to be rare among both populations. Brain tumors can be classified as malignant.

To avoid brain tumor, you must avoid the triggers and risks:
Exposure factors:
Radiation - Workers in the nuclear industry have an increased risk of developing a brain tumor
Formaldehyde - Pathologists and embalmers who work with formaldehyde have an increased risk of developing brain cancer.
Vinyl chloride - Workers who make plastics may be exposed to vinyl chloride
Acrylonitrile - People who make textiles and plastics may be exposed to acrylonitrile.
