My husband's blood pressure was up to 160/75 and we was given Zestril, Lasix and Coreg to take. Now today his blood pressure has dropped down to 84/72. He took it again in a hour and it had gone back up to 92/76 then in another hour up to 94/78. He does not want to go to the ER is there something we can do to watch his blood pressure. He is not going to take any more of the pills. They said he has Congestive Heart Failure.

First off, I would suspect an inaccurate B/P measurement with the reading of 84/72. Generally you should see a larger difference between your systolic and diastolic pressures.
However, if the reading was accurate, that is a little too low for most people. He needs to check with his MD NOW. Going to the ER shouldn't be necessary. You just need to call his doctor's office and ask them what he should do. The MD should either change the amounts of meds he is taking or ask that he come in for another exam. Most MD's would simply alter the medication regimen over the phone. Your husband DOES NOT need to stop taking the meds, especially the Lasix if he has Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). The Lasix is to prevent exacerbation or worsening of the symptoms of CHF. CHF can lead to sudden shortness of breath and even death. A systolic pressure (top number) of 84 is too low for most people, but some people can tolerate that low of a pressure and function just fine. So don't be too alarmed if your MD says to keep taking the meds and monitor the B/P for a few more days. One thing to consider is whether or not your husband has symptoms of low B/P such as weakness, dizziness, vision changes, or feeling faint. If he has no symptoms, I wouldn't get too alarmed, yet. Lastly, keep in mind that the B/P standard of 120/80 is now being re-examined by most of the medical community. Many now believe that a "normal" B/P should be less than 120/80. Some suggest that 110/75 or even 100/70 be the new "norm". Registered Nurse for "years". |

The Lasix gets rid of body fluids, this can drop blood pressure drastically. Not sure about the other 2 but the lasix is what probably did this. My wife had a similar incident and almost died. She dropped to 60/40.

I dont know about the zestril, but the coreg definately lowers blood pressure, you need to get him in to see his cardiologist, they need to adjust something. Mine is regulated just perfect with diovan coreg, and lasix. I have heart failure as well! This isnt something you should mess with!

The zestril is a drug given for high blood pressure and sometimes heart failure. The Coreg is usually given with a diuretic like Lasix maybe also for heart failure. I doubt that the Lasix has anything to do with the b/p. The b/p in a normal person should be around 120/80 so that is a little low after taking the meds. The dosage may need to be adjusted. Is he supposed to be taking that many pills only an hour apart? If he dose not want to go to the doctor you could call your local hospital and just ask to speak with a nurse. At any rate, the only one who can properly asses him is a doctor. Medication should only be taken as directed. Hope it all works out well for you!
