Default Macrodantin and UTI's.?

I began getting monthly UTI's starting last July; a week or so ago I was put on Macrodantin. I did not have a UTI at the time Macrodantin was prescribed, and had previously been treated with Bactrum.

But as of about halfway through today I started getting the usual symptoms of a UTI - urgency, frequency, pain, ect.

Are these side effects of Macrodantin? Is it possible to contract a UTI while on Macrodantin?

It is possible to get a UTI while on an antibiotic - it means that the antibiotic isn't working against the "germ" that is causing the infection and you need a different antibiotic. You need to talk with your doctor about your symptoms. In the meantime, dramatically increase your water intake to help decrease your symptoms or take some Azo or Uristat along with your antibiotics. If you have been having UTI's monthly, something is wrong. Hopefully, you have made an appointment with a urologist to find out why this keeps happening.

Yes. you can still get a UTI. I would get a second opinion from a known urologist to make sure your diagnosis is correct. their are several ways to help avoid getting a UTI, and several more ways to treat them.
