Default Am I the only person who has a problem putting my 2 yr old on zyrtec, singulair, albutroll, and pulmicort?l?

There has to be a better way to manage occasional asthma attacks than all of this medication everyday. We have already had all of the allergy testing and results were minimal.

Did your doctor tell you to give him all of these at the same time? I'm wondering because I have asthma and I have allergies. I take Zyrtec and Advair. I'll tell you what my doctor told me and then you can discuss it with your doctor or maybe a different doctor. I take Zyrtec for allergic reactions that have nothing to do with asthma. I was using albuterol inhalers for my asthma. Eventually my lungs couldn't expand enough for me to get 100% oxygen because of scar tissue that built up in them over the years from asthma attacks (I'm 47 years old and I was born with asthma - so this was a lot of years). My doctor told me that the albuterol stops the symptoms of an asthma attack, but does not stop the actual attack and so my lungs were getting scarred anyway, even though it felt like my attack was over. She prescribed Advair to prevent attacks. I take the lowest dose and I only have to take it once a day. I haven't had an asthma attack since and so I don't have to use the albuterol anymore. I would think at the most, all your son would need would by Zyrtec and Advair (I think Singulair is similar, but since I'm not sure I wrote Advair). If he doesn't have any real problems with allergies, I'd think maybe just the Advair would work. I keep an albuterol inhaler around just in case I ever need it, but I haven't. You should talk to your doctor and make sure he isn't over medicating your son. If you think he is and he thinks he isn't, it wouldn't hurt to see someone else and get a second opinion. I wasn't prescribed Advair until I moved to a different state and got a new doctor. It never hurts to get a second opinion.

these are all to prevent it. I was on all that except pulmicort, now I just take albuterol, and singulair.

If your child is as sensitive as I am to certain things, it may be necessary. I haven't had an attack in years.

That is quite a bit for a 2 year old.

My daughter is supposed to take Zyrtec everyday for allergies. But I only give it to her if I know she's going to be exposed to her major allergy offenders (fresh cut grass is the worst)

1/2 hour before potential exposure, I give her a dose which minimizes her symptoms. Otherwise, I figure a *little* exposure to allergens will help build her immune system.

My child doesn't have allergies or asthma, but you should research other methods of caring for those problems. Did your doctor have any other suggestions? I would definitely have issues with giving my child all those meds everyday.

That does seem to be a lot of medication for a 2 year old.

Talk with your pediatrician, and mention your concerns. If he doesn't want to switch it, then you switch, and get a second opinion. Check around on the internet.

It's one thing to help someone with medication, but I think this is overdoing it.

Have you researched Homeopathic Medicine? Or any natural, herbal options? I do not have these option here where I live. Maybe you have the opportunity to take this route. I am not thrilled about them either. try posting in alternative medicine to see what results/info you can get.

Well if your doctor puts your child on this stuff its for a reason.... Its worth it when I can save your child's life. There are a lot of people in my family that suffer from asthma. My mother who is closest to me has suffered many attacks and if that medication wasn't give she would have died. Treat your daughter, if her lungs fail she could suffer from brain injuries due to lack of oxygen or even die.
