LA Times:
Hope builds for treating intellectual disabilities: A common medication is one of several drugs that may... And what is the potential medication for fragile X with"a train wreck of conditions — autism, attention deficit, bipolar, anxiety and more — rolled into a single kid"?????.... An antibiotic - Minocycline - used since the 1960s to treat acne, skin infections, strep throat, and chlamydia. What the antipsychotics did was sedate the kids. This did not - it actually improved their condition. This reminded me of the folks talking about PANDAS and ticcing and OCD and how antibiotics HELPED in a meaningful way whereas the psychiatric drugs suppressed some symptoms but did not help many kids and gave sometimes horrible side-effects. I also thought - gee - I hope they are taking care of the children's gut while on these antibiotics to avoid other problems down the line! There was a family I saw interviewed for "Saving Sammy". Here is an excerpt I found: Saving Sammy: Curing the Boy Who Caught OCD - iVillage And here is a video: YouTube - Today Show Saving Sammy PANDAS These antibiotics are doing something else???? Or does Fragile X leave these kids open to autoimmune problems against bacteria??? This is so interesting! In the Saving Sammy story, they used Augmentin. The Saving Sammy is sort of like the kid with Schizophrenia in It's Not Mental |

It doesn't mean that it worked for some that it would work for others. going to the doctor is always the best. Minocycline can have the following side effects:
Nausea Fever Diarrhea Vomiting Skin reaction to sunlight (photosensitivity) Upset stomach (dyspepsia) Lack of appetite Headache Dizziness Fatigue Itchy skin Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) or severe throat pain Darkening of skin, eye, or nail pigment (often a purple, blue, or gray, bruise-like appearance) Watery diarrhea Severe stomach cramps Bloody stools Unusual headaches Blurred vision Unexplained rash Joint pain Fever Feeling tired Signs of an allergic reaction, such as: An unexplained rash Hives Itching Wheezing Swelling of the mouth or throat Difficulty breathing. |

How could an antibiotic be helpful in a mental conditions. I've seen doctors medicating patients with antipsychotic drugs only for OCD, Schizophrenia and other mental dysfunctions.

Well, it is always a case to case basis. There are still some disorders that can't be treated by medicines only. Using a facility with professional medical staff can be the solution but then again, it's a case to case basis.
