Default Antioxidants in the role of health

Antioxidants are widely used as ingredients in dietary supplements in the hope of maintaining health and preventing diseases such as cancer and coronary heart disease. Pplants and animals maintain complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, vitamin C, and vitamin E as well as enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and various peroxidases。In general, water-soluble antioxidants react with oxidants in the cell cytosol and the blood plasma, while lipid-soluble antioxidants protect cell membranes from lipid peroxidation。

Fruits that pack the most powerful antioxidants are prunes, raisins, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, plums, oranges, red grapes and cherries. For veggies, kale, spinach, brussels sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, broccoli flowers, beets, red bell peppers, onions, corn and eggplant have the most antioxidants.

Antioxidants block the process of oxidation by neutralizing free radicals. By neutralizing, they themselves become oxidized. For this reason, our bodies are always in need of a steady source of antioxidants. The best place to get antioxidants, as with any vitamin or mineral, is from the food we eat. Fruits and vegetables are by far the most abundant sources of antioxidants.

Here is a blog entry on finding hypoallergenic supplements - none of the products are sold on that site - it is just information.

Antioxidants are very vital for our health. We should include berries in our diet to stay healthy.

Antioxidants has tremendous marketing campaigns to date that are present in food supplements, vitamins, processed food, etc. Do you think these products still contain the same level of antioxidants needed by the body or those from fresh fruits and vegetables?
