I use to get really bad outbreaks. The bad part about cold sores is that depending on the severity overtime the scarring will reducing your lip size and utlimately having them can be painful and for some people can affect their moral. I have tried Zovirax, Valtrex and dieting. The best explanation is that cold sores (herpes) is like a strand of hair that reaches your spinal cord, this is where it lies dormant, when it activates it rises to the area and hence you have a cold sore. I tried a product from a friend who gave me this link. I would book mark it. Unlike Valtrex, when I used the product it dried out the cold sore in about 10 minutes, it scabbed over and in a few days I was left with no signs. Unlike the other medication which would take a week and somtime too. They also state that it reduces the likelihood of you getting them again because it kills the nerve. I have been outbreak free for 3 years now!Book mark it. It worked for me. I put the link in the source below. Good luck.

I use rubbing alcohol. It is a little painful at first, but then it dries up pretty fast. I have gotten cold sores since I was five. I put a little alcohol on a kleenex a couple times a day and the swelling goes away and dries up in about 2-3 days depending on how bad it is. Report Abuse

The doctor can prescribe the cream Denavir, which works much better than Zovirax for me, and he/she can prescribe Valtrex. You can take it two different ways. The can prescribe it where you take it every day, as a preventative, but they'll only do that if you have pretty frequent breakouts. Or they can give you a small dose to take when one starts. With that, you take 2 pills immediately as soon as the first symptoms occur, and then two more that night. These two things help me, and I've had them so much over the years that I don't even have the "lip-tingle" to tell me I'm getting them anymore.

Is cold sore the same as mouth sore? Or are these two different?
