Default Will being on anti-depressants disqualify me for sea duty in the Navy?

After I joined the Navy, I was diagnosed with depression and social phobia. Right now, I am taking Prozac and Desyrel. Will taking these mean I can't go on a ship and will either be medically separated or stuck on shore duty for the rest of my career?

most likely. you must pass a sea duty screening, and being on Antidepressants means you will not. you will not have access to such meds while underway.

I don't think being on a ship for months at a time is going to help your condition.....do you know how depressed these sailors become month after month with not much to do?

You will likely be medically discharged if the issue can not be resolved in short order. The Navy does not keep people that can not perform sea duty.

Talk to the dr who is prescribing these drugs for you. It's a Navy doctor, right??

You Navy doctor will be the one to make that call. I think it will be unlikely, but I am not a doctor.

Good Luck anyway.
