Default Does anyone know how I can get the medication called depakote without having to see a therapist im in nc?

I have a mood disorder and it is called bipolar but I do not have much money and I cant afford to see someone who can prescribe it to me. Can anyone give me some information on how to get it when I dont have insurance or anything like that?

Yep- you can go to the clinic. I know for a fact that Depakote is having clinical trials so ask to sign up for that. You get the medicine for free but you have to see the doctor more because you're a " Guinea Pig"

On a side note: if they can give you anything other than Depakote, take it. I was on that and I hated it. It made me so foggy, plus I gained like 30 pounds. There are other treatments for bi-polar disorder that won't make you all foggy or get fat.

Check and see if you have a free care clinic in your area.

Depakote has potentially dangerous side effects, making self-prescribing a dangerous thing. Also, you need the therapy as well; some people try to avoid it.

Find a free or low-cost clinic. Medical schools often have them.

Call the county health department.

You still need to get script for meds.At http://www.bipolarworld.net under medications, you can find a list of drug companies and programs than can help get meds if you qualify. Also have you tried to get approved for medicaid?Sometimes you can get approved if you have long term disabilities.I know I was able to get it for my son as a secondary insurance. We pay a monthly payment according to our income.I know every state is different.

I took depakote for a while, but my disorder is depression and panic attacks.

It is part of the treatment procedure not something to take and poof! the disorder goes away

I don't think it's right to take medication on your own.

This is no help for your problem but please please see a professional for your own good

Good luck and get well soon
