Most people diagnosed as bipolar aren't.

The two drugs differ greatly in how they act. Zyprexa is an antipsycotic which promotes diabetes, it also causes sudden unexplained death in elderly patients.

Depakote originally was used for absence seizures in epilepsy, but marketing extended its uses. Watch out for liver problems, avoid alcohol and asprin or NSAIDS like advil or motrin.

Zyprexa is an anti-psychotic, developed for treatment of schizophrenia, but now commonly prescribed for bipolar and depression. Depakote is an anti-convulsant, originally used to prevent seizures, but now often used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar. Two different meds, apples and oranges as others have said. Not sure which of you is "worse" - I assume you're talking about the meds and not yourselves. I suggest you get more knowledgeable about medications - what you're taking and why, and whether they are working for you. Good luck.

I find it interesting that in your previous question about Depakote that you were concerned about liver damage, and now you are asking about avoiding alcohol. Both are metabolized in the liver. Alcohol also increases the effects of the Depakote. THAT'S why you must avoid alcohol.

As far as your dad and you go, you are comparing apples to oranges here. You have a different type of the disorder than he does, and your medicines will be different because of that. You are both on low doses of your respective medications. That being said, those of us who are rapid cycling or have mixed episodes typically are worse off, but I can't say how the two of you compare as far as your psychiatric histories go.
