Yes i'd agree with Hellerbourne . It's used to treat a lot of allergies and is an antihistamine . But there are a lot of common and serious side effects which are associated with Atarax .

The common side effects include dry mouth and drowsiness and some of the serious one's are hives , itching , difficulty in breathing , swelling of the mouth , etc .

Funny we are talking about atarax (hydroxyzine - an antihistamine) being used for both "allergic reactions" and "mental symptoms." Here is more: Allergies, Asthma, and “Mental” Illness.
