Default Atarax and side effects?

My doctor Rx'd me Atarax for anxiety. I know the side effects, but is there some other side effect other than the serious drowsiness that comes along with it? i want to sleep, but mostly I feel out of sorts while I'm on it.

Will the 'out of sorts' go away or will I feel this was every time I take it?

I work in at a hospital where we see atarax given a lot. I think it is like most meds that will eventually build a tolerance in your system. If you think the med isn't right for you, talk to your doc, there are many other meds that may be helpful in your situation. good luck!

SIDE EFFECTS: Hydroxyzine can commonly cause sedation, tiredness, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, drying and thickening of oral and other respiratory secretions, and stomach distress. Hydroxyzine may also cause confusion, nervousness, irritability, blurred vision, double vision, tremor, loss or appetite, or nausea. Hydroxyzine should be used with caution (if at all) in persons with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate gland), hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and asthma.

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Atarax.

Drowsiness, the most common side effect of Atarax, is usually temporary and may disappear in a few days or when dosage is reduced. Other side effects include dry mouth, twitches, tremors, and convulsions. The last two usually occur with higher than recommended doses of Atarax.

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.

* Headache

* Dry mouth

* Drowsiness

* Confusion

* Muscle weakness

* Dizziness

I believe this drug is actually an antihistamine that is sometimes prescribed for anxiety. The symptoms that you mention should gradually go away as your body builds up a tolerance for the drug.

And for me, it did yield a anniversary or so for the initial body-getting-used-to-it ancillary furnishings to abate.
