Default Depression linked to allergies

Finally, the news media is catching up to something parents have noticed for decades - that our allergic children are prone to depression (and other mood symptoms) and the worse the allergies, the worse the symptoms can become. We sometimes see a seasonal fluctuation in "mental" symptoms along with the allergies.

The reason, scientists say, are cytokines - involved in inflammation - and in allergies and psychiatric symptoms.

Here are just two samples of this news - there are so many sources right now, it is hard to choose:

Seasonal allergies could spark depression, fatigue - USAToday

Allergies Might Trigger Depression

Of course, we often think of depression being linked to STRESS, but think about this - allergies ARE stress!

Seasonal allergies can put you in a foul mood and they can also put you more at risk for clinical depression. Researchers in Minnesota say seasonal allergy sufferers are also twice as likely to suffer depression.

Anyone suffering from allergies or knows of someone who does should be aware of the possible connection between allergies and depression. Some notable symptoms of this condition include fatigue, sudden weight gain or loss, anxiety attacks, and unusual sleep patterns.
